Miranda Yiu was born in Hong Kong and graduated from the ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles, USA, majoring in illustration. After returning to Hong Kong, she worked in illustration and design for nearly two decades, mastering various media, including acrylic, watercolor, collage, and paper sculpture. She actively participated in and promoted Hong Kong’s illustration scene and previously served as the president of the Hong Kong Society of Illustrators.

In recent years, she has focused on ink art, particularly fascinated by the depiction of the human form. She explores the expressive possibilities of calligraphic brushstrokes and varying ink tones to capture the rhythm of the body—sometimes bold, sometimes fluid, sometimes delicate. She seeks to integrate her experience in design and illustration into ink painting, developing a unique artistic language. Unlike traditional ink landscapes, Yiu uses ink to portray the human figure as a medium for personal expression. Through brushwork and ink washes, her dynamic lines resemble the fluidity of calligraphy, navigating the interplay of black and white to explore a hazy sense of self-awareness. Many of her compositions embrace the use of negative space.

White is emptiness, yet it is also presence—a return to the inner self, a state of tranquility where wisdom emerges. Despite the dazzling colors and illusions of the external world, she remains detached, residing within it in her own way, finding joy and serenity in self-contentment.
